About Us

Hello everybunny.

Hmmm, what to say about us? My name is Marko, I am 18 years old grammar school student from Bjelovar, Croatia. Ever since I was a baby my family has been raising animals. My first encounter with rabbits would probably have to be with only few months, as my grandmother was raising meat rabbits.

My first rabbit was a pet bunny named Flekica (Croatian word for spot). She was a broken black dwarf doe. I had her since I was 8 until I was 13 I believe. I do miss her even though we never really connect. My love for these little furries died along Flekica.

It was until the year 2013 when I rediscovered my love for rabbits when my parents got into raising rabbits for commercial purposes. But the deal was sealed by Fawn, a mutt that was born to my parents' meat rabbits on  February of 2014. My first idea was to get her neutered and make her my pet. As I progressed with my research on pets I re-fell in love, I acknowledged that rabbits do best in pairs. My birthday was approaching in April and I remember my mum's shocking reaction when I asked for rabbit for my 18th birthday.

So, my parents fullified my wish and got me a New Zealand Red buck few days then my acctual birthday. I ended up calling him Rubin. It took me about 2-3 months to totally tame him, but today I can proudly say he is 100% tame and likes to be pet.

For few more months I only thought of rabbits as pets, but as I got more into reading and watching videos of different types of rabbit raising, I decided to raise rabbity colony way sometimes during the beggining of Summer 2014. In the meantime, I got another rabbit, something I thought I would never see in person, a Harlequin coloured mutt doe, Sari. Sari was given to my by relatives who got her, but as soon as she ended her 3 week caranteen and was moved to cages system to other rabbits, she passed.

Two main reasons for which I raise rabbits are the ability to study genetics and to make some side money. First, I did not get into rabbit raising to make profit, nor could I do something like that from only few rabbits in my backyard. On the other hand, why not try to cover at least a part of my rabbit food and care outcomes. Second thing; genetics. I am into genetics, a lot, no matter which animal species. And I like how rabbits make it all clean and easy to understand. Also, love for this cuddly balls of fur is the indispensable factor.

And that is pretty much to be said about the Rusty Pocket Rabbitry so far. If you have any questions rabbit-wisely, make sure to contact me via my mail adress (marko.gorsa8@gmail.com). For weekly updates check out our WeekendVlog page. Thanks for reading, stay positive and love bunnies.
